Our project partners:

Breaking barriers in health services

Issues include inconsistent interpreting services, underdiagnosis and a lack of treatment, and health information not available in BSL. Deaf people are twice as likely to experience mental health problems as the general population.

The project aims to improve healthcare services by working with deaf people, the NHS, health boards and other service providers. It also aims to develop online resources and an online medical dictionary.

Improving Healthcare

Improving Healthcare

We’re working to make healthcare more accessible for deaf people across Wales. That means making sure services are easier to understand, more welcoming, and built with deaf people in mind.

Education & Awareness

Education & Awareness

By teaching healthcare professionals how to better communicate with deaf patients, we’re helping build a more informed, understanding, and inclusive healthcare system.

Equal Access

Equal Access

Everyone deserves the same level of care. We’re helping deaf individuals get fair access to mental health support and public health services by removing communication barriers and promoting inclusive approaches.

Policy Representation

Policy Representation

Deaf voices matter. We’re making sure deaf people are part of important conversations in healthcare and policymaking so that decisions reflect their real needs.

Support for deaf people

At Deaf Health Wales, we aim to bridge the gap in healthcare access and reduce inequalities for deaf BSL signers. Our platform connects individuals, professionals, and organisations with vital information and support across six core hubs.
